Love is the order of the day in Aunty’s Love Pad but what makes the Love Couples ready for the next step?

Often, when we’re dating or engaged, we overlook some important areas of our lives that we need to consider before we walk down the aisle. For this reason, Aunty has taken it upon her to lead her Love Couples in the right direction towards making the right choice in the journey to forever. Chat sessions upon chat sessions, questions on finances, personal goals, religious differences, diversities in culture, age and backgrounds have been thrown at each of the love birds.

What makes you sure about saying I DO to your partner? Let’s find out.

  • Do you really love your partner -- Or the idea of getting married?

It is key to put your feelings in check. Circumstances may create a love environment for a Couple but what keeps them in cupid’s good books is the love factor.

  • Are you willing to let go of your partner’s baggage?

You may agree that the past doesn’t define us and it shouldn’t but whether you admit it or not, it can make or mar the present and future of your marriage. So, like Aunty would say, help yourselves by clearing the air about any skeletons in the closet or secrets in the cupboard.

  • What’s your partner’s financial situation?

As obvious as it sounds, you ought to know the spending level, investment or savings culture and most importantly, any debts incurred so you don’t carry ‘gbese’ on top your head oo.

  • How attractive is your partner to you?

All those questions Aunty asked the Love Couples about if they give their partners hugs and kisses now come into play in this factor. You wouldn’t want to wake up next to your partner in bed angry, would you? There’s something beautiful about two people who are attracted to each other on a spiritual, emotional, intellectual and of course, physical level. You’ve got that? Lucky you!

  • What are your individual beliefs?

What core spiritual or religious beliefs do the two of you share? Finding your common ground and working outward from there is a great first step before saying I DO.

  • Make peace with family and future in-laws

Tension between you and your family members will definitely cause a friction in your union, whether you anticipate it or not. We’re not saying you should invite all your village people to come into your home, however, make your relationship smoother by putting up with their crazy antics once in a while.

  • BREATHE!

Once family and friends know that you’re about walking down the aisle, they instantly become a hundred percent involved in your wedding planning. One uncle or aunty from Adam will all of a sudden become your marriage counsellor. You don’t want to be overwhelmed by these distractions; take it one step at a time and with the help of your partner, plan that dream wedding of yours!

  • Compatibility

How many kids do you want? What are your individual goals? Will you be able to support each other’s passions and pursuits? What do you both want in life? Do your priorities align? How well do you get along with each other? It’s true that opposites attract, find the common ground and know how to navigate your opposite sides to ensure compatibility.

Bottom line: Be sure you’re comfortable about being with each other, regardless of the diversities. Be sure you’re getting married for the right reasons and not just because weddings are beautiful ceremonies. Lastly, always remember that saying I DO means, “till death do us part”.
