So it's down to six movies and we've been wrecking our brains trying to pick our favourite so we thought we should turn to you to help us decide.
But, first things first, let's get to know the stories behind the stories just to help you in your selection.
Alter Ego
Origin: Nigeria
DIRECTOR: Moses Inwang/Esther Eyibio
Synopsis: The story centers around Ada Igwe (played by Omotola) who is a successful lawyer by day and a nymphomania by night (and day too…lol). Ada is hell-bent on ensuring that perpetrators of sexual assault against women end up atoning for their sins whether by means of imprisonment or public disgrace. As the story progresses, Ada finally meets a guy who she likes and begins to dial back on her escapades, only to find out that the dude is the baba nla of sexual assault. We also learn that Ada was molested as a child and that experience shaped the rest of her life.
Devil's Chest
Origin: Uganda
DIRECTOR: Hassan Mageye
Synopsis: A true story about Joseph Kony and Lords Resistance Army (LRA). A village woman has to fight for her freedom after forced to be the wife of a rebel leader (Joseph Kony) that is responsible for her husband's and other people's deaths.
Descent
Origin: Nigeria
DIRECTOR: Awal Abdulfatai
Synopsis: When Kalu Achebe (Zack Orji) found out that his only daughter lost her life to the recklessness of his business rival's son, he is all out for blood and vengeance. However, Andrew Morgan ( Matt Stern ) has other to bring to his Knees.
18 HOURS
Origin: Kenya
DIRECTOR/PRODUCER: Phoebe Ruguru
Synopsis: Inspired by true events, 18 HOURS follows a rookie paramedic who spends 18 hours in an ambulance for the life of a road crash victim who struggles to be admitted to any hospital.
Potato Potahto
Origin: Nigeria
DIRECTOR: Shirley Frimpong Manso
Synopsis: A divorced couple who decide to share equal space in their ex-matrimonial home soon realize that the ingenious idea is easier said than done. Bent on flexing their egos and scoring points, the two implore various hilarious tactics that soon inflames emotions and turns an already complicated situation into a roller coaster ride.
The Road to Sunrise
Origin: Malawi
DIRECTOR: Shemu Joyah
Synopsis: Exploited by men and ridiculed by the world, two young women, Rubia and Watipa, learn to rely on each other as they struggle to survive in the rough, unforgiving townships of Blantyre, Malawi. When Rubia develops an unlikely love affair with a naive young man and then has a tragic confrontation with a rich businessman, the women begin their uncertain journey towards emancipation.
This may not be a voting category but we know that the jury will have it tough deciding on the ultimate Movie of AMVCA 2018. Which movie deserves Best Overall Movie?
