Interesting song choices made by the Coaches for Talent in the Battles stage so far. From songs performed by legendary world musicians, to those of renowned African musicians.
We’ve seen Coaches Pato, Timi, Waje and Yemi pairing two Talent on their Teams and assigning them a song to Battle for a spot in the Live Shows.
Coach Yemi had Ifeoma and Olla singing legendary Chaka Khan and Whitney Houston’s “I’m Every Woman” during the first episode of the Battles stage. Interestingly, Ifeoma auditioned with a Whitney Houston song titled “When You Believe”, while Olla auditioned with “That Stupid Song” by Bez. Yemi said she paired these two because she wanted to see how a soulful Olla could match “powerhouse” Ifeoma’s voice. Come Battle time, these two surely delivered!
#TeamTimi’s Blessed auditioned with “Folasade” by Praiz, while Bada auditioned with the “Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars. Come Battle time, their Coach Timi picked Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered. For Timi, this was more of a challenge to both, as he said he expected a lot from them and wanted to see what they would come up with in their performance. In the end, Bada proved that ‘nobody bada than Bada’.
Song choices from renowned African musicians included Yemi Alade’s “Na Gode”, which was performed by #TeamPato’s KessyDriz and the now #TeamWaje’s Favour, after being stolen by Waje when Pato picked KessyDriz for the Lives. For Pato, the song choice was also a challenge for the two, as he said he hoped they would do justice to it. They did just that!
Just this Sunday, #TeamYemi’s Majeeka and the now #TeamTimi's Wolei were assigned Niyola’s song titled “Toh Bad” for their Battle. Another pair that performed a song by an African musician were #TeamWaje’s Obichi and Zicsaloma, who sang Korede Bello ft Tiwa Savage’s song titled “Romantic”. Coach Yemi once said to Talent “performing and African song is no beans” so kudos to the Talent who have been given these songs so far and gave it their all!
Meanwhile, the Coaches have also selected a few popularly loved songs for Talent on their Teams for the Battles. For instance, John Legend’s “Love Me Now”, which was performed by #TeamTimi’s IDYL and Happiness, as well as Labyrinth’s “Beneath Your Beautiful”, which was performed by #TeamPato’s Tama Nisa and Annie C.
