... and offenders will be heavily judged!
BAM COVR

If you haven’t been living under a rock or contained in an empty vaccum, then you should be generously clued up with what’s been happening in tinsel town lately. For a good few months pre-event, excitement around the AMVCAs literally became our daily food and boy were our pallets in for a treat. On this week’s serving of 53Extra, court was in session and fashion offenders were judged accordingly. Wanna know what the verdicts were?!

Arguably the biggest affair for Nollywood royalty and commoners alike, the AMVCAs definitely forced a lot of designers’ hands into creating timeless pieces of art that would leave permanent marks on fashion canvasses which in this case, are our memories. D’you get?

First up were ‘the rookies’ of the affair, Omotola Jalade, Jimmy Odukoya and Toyin Abraham amongst others. While there was a general yay for the ladies who according to our advocates looked like royalty and just about hit the fashion nail on the head, Jimmy’s choice of colour seemed too bright for this side of life and according to the experts, deserved a special place far away from the red carpet. Props and expensive bubbles to Toyin's glam team for pulling a look so great, Efe and Denola were just about 'roulette-synched'.

The crème de la crème of tinseltown seem to have replenished their guns since firing at last year’s serving and aimed to hit the mark this time around. For the always ‘iconically dressed’ Rita Dominque and flawless Inidima Okojie, the squad brought out the golden stars and nodded approvingly at their improved efforts. For Our 'Becky with the good hair' however, this year's red number was knocked out of the park by the purple dolled up one she wore last year; an unfortunate step down there Toni.

Ye generation of trends! From the ubundance of ball dresses screaming 'I've arrived' to high slits showing legs that go on forever and capes for tails, this year's AMVCA was definitely trend-aligned. Served like a dish of subtle pepper, the likes of Lota Chukwu, Bolanle Olukanni and faith Williams slayed their looks and most certainly left their ‘ugly step sisters’ drowning in jealousy.

Last but no least on the court rollout were the BBNaija graduates. Fully aware of their place in the public eye and having been scrutinized by so many, we'd think these alumni would hit home runs all the time, but hey! Now, according to our style entourage, TBoss was a ball of 'gross fabric malfunction' and Alex was well, 'unsual'. Bisola blazed trails effortlessly and Cee-C did the deed and managed to collect some positive publicity for a change. Don't get us started on Bambam's own abi; she fit fall our hand... but then again, all publicity is good publicity.

Aunty Chinalu said something about having gone into the 'control room' to reset 'gentlemen' back to factory setting but it seems Leo and Tobi were the only ones still connected to the server because they looked totally 'bespoke' worthy. Teddy A and Soma on the other hand seemed to have fallen off the radar, losing a shirt and material co-ordination abilities while at it.

So much to say and so little time. A butcher for meat injustices, a janitor for unclean floors and an experienced style squad for fabric malfunctions and the unforgivable uses of ill-fitting suits; our fashion panel dug in deep and left no stones unturned; slapping the ‘who’s whos’ with big fat yays and nays. Agree with these verdicts? If you missed out on the 53Extra fashion hour, check out the video below.
