We’ve taken a close-up on the hair culture inside the Double Wahala House.

Across the African continent, hairstyles have reflected the strengths of the diverse cultures inhabiting the world’s oldest land.  Hair’s cultural significance is an inseparable identity marker for people of African descent the world over: it is a source of pride and celebration and it is not different in the House.

Rock That Hair

Rico Swavey entered the BBNaija world confidently rocking a braided mohawk. In the days that followed, he not only got more comfortable rocking his natural hair but also getting his hand onto other people’s scalps. The resident chef has not shied away from styling his peers’ hairs while exhibiting desirable versatile hairstyles himself.  As for Teddy A and Miracle, they both owned fiery frohawk locs with coloured tips, with Teddy A’s being long enough to be pulled into a ponytail, a bun or even braided. When we first saw Miracle, his frohawk looked rather rigid and stiff, perhaps like its owner. Gradually as he himself loosened up, even his hair grew more flexible. With clean lines, Lolu and Tobi joined the Double Wahala with their hair neatly shaved off and smooth, well-defined edges.  As the week went by, Tobi first then Lolu adopted a hair sponge brush to shape their hair into tight coils that have increasingly grown into micro dreadlocks.

The Hair Colour Club

When Alex first emerged onto the BBNaija stage, she confidently sported a cropped Bright Green hair. One could tell that she had found her marks into the House, as she consequently had her hair dyed into an Electric Blue hue and of late has dared going all-Blonde.  Anto on the other hand rolled into the House excessively made-up, and asides from the rare occasions where she wigged out, seemed to enjoy wearing her thick, long hair naturally in cornrows for the most part. Like Rico Swavey, Anto and Nina has often volunteered to help other Housemates with their hair matters. It is Nina and Bambam who win at the wig game in the House, wearing different cuts and colours. As for Cee-C she hasn’t changed her hair game. She has consistently kept the same voluminous wavy black weave since her first day.

As veteran fashionista once said that “if your hair is done properly and you're wearing good shoes, you can get away with anything." Do you remember how Leo was narrowly Evicted because of a bad haircut?
