Jemeji has truly won over the masses with its shocking plot twists and stellar acting

You only need to do a brief search for "#AMJemeji" on Twitter to see how engaged the fans of our hottest show are. So well cemented is the camaraderie among them that they even call themselves, "The citizens of Aji". Their hilarious banter has also been responsible for many a top trend in Nigeria. It all boils down to Jemeji being a thrilling watch and perhaps that's why it's hard to believe that five months have already passed since our favourite corpers first touched down in Aji.

In that time, they've found love & dealt with grave loss. They've been caught up in power struggles and have even survived an attack on their lives and yet it seems the plot just keeps on thickening. At the heart of this story are a stellar cast that convince with their performances, every single time.

We'd like to think what keeps people coming back to Jemeji is the show's ability to capture the conflict between compassion and greed so well. For example, on the surface, Petu seems like a wretch who will stop at nothing to amass power and wealth but look closer and you'll see a woman who has no friends or family and as such is lonely and insecure so she manipulates situations. In the same vein, so many despise Iya Oviyon for treating her son like a handbag but who's she got in her corner other than Oviyon? What of Akweyon who almost killled the corpers but is also a sexual abuse victim who's hopelessly in love with Neza but imprisoned by Mausi, whom she ironically owes her life.

All of this juxtaposed against the theme of love's unrelenting power to heal divides. Consider Oviyon and Senami who seem hopelessly drawn to one another despite enduring more pitfalls than we can keep track of; Or Akweyon who couldn't be more different from Neza but found comfort in his arms and healed him in his time of need. Or Obi who's falling harder for Folake as the web of lies he's spun starts to unravel.

All things considered, there's no such thing as a comic book villain or a fairytale ending and Jemeji is a testament to that. In that sense, it's a reflection of what happens in real life and honestly, all the best stories are. Here's to 100 episodes of awesome, story telling.
